Trace32 for SCCM 2012 (Config Mgr 2012)

If you are looking for Trace32 for SCCM 2012 (or now known as Config Mgr 2012) then you will now be looking for CMTrace.exe.

CMTrace32.exe is very similar as Trace32.exe and even has the same looking GUI and features (to my knowledge at least). The only things that are different are:

1. The Icon – which it really need it, this icon looks awesome compared
2. Supports Config Mgr 2012 Logs – I have heard that Trace32.exe has a few problems reading SCCM 2012 logs so this new version resolves that

Where do you get it from?

The good news is you no longer need to download the SCCM Tools V2 pack to get CMTrace.exe like you had to with SCCM 2007.

It is now available directly from the Config Mgr 2012 install files. You can find it here >> \SMSSETUP\TOOLS\CMTrace.exe.

All you need to do to get it is copy it to your local drive and run it from there. The first time you run it you will be prompted to make it the default program to open all .log files. Click Yes and there you go…. it will make your life 100 times easier when reading SCCM logs (plus its not too bad on other logs too once you get used to it).

What is Trace32.exe and CMTrace.exe

If you don’t know what these exe’s are then you are really missing out. They are used to easily read SCCM 2007 and\or SCCM 2012 (Config Mgr 2012) log files. They the log file content in a really easy to read format (especially the date and time for each line) and plus they auto highlight error and warnings in red and yellow respectively.

Other Cool Stuff

The other awesome thing is that CMTrace.exe still contains the error look-up feature as what comes with Trace32.exe. If you don’t know about that then check out this post here for more info
