admin@System-Domain password has expired

Here is a quick fix to a problem that I had the other day, which I thought my be useful to a few people.

You logging into the vSphere 5.1 Web Client with the local vSphere Single Sign-On (SSO) user of admin@System-Domain and it fails with the error message of associated users password is expired.

Below is the solution to this error message…

The first problem is, you get the error associated users password is expired and the second problem is you don’t get prompted to change the password…. so now you are stuck!

Well not really, the solution is actually simple – extend the timeout value in the database. To do this you need to increase the MAX_LIFE_SEC column in the dbo.IMS_AUTHN_PASSWORD_POLICY table.

How do you do this?

Well just follow the instructions in VMware KB2060150, which you can find here.

I can report good news, because I did it and it works great!

Any questions, let me know in the comments below.

Enjoy.
